Any glimpse into the life of an animal quickens our own and makes it so much larger and better in every way.

—JOHN MUIR

As we entered our ninth year of our twenty-year initiative, we paused to look back on the progress that has been accomplished through the state in recent years and what objectives remain to shape a more safe and humane Oklahoma. Kirkpatrick Foundation has supported individuals and organizations dedicated to animal wellbeing for over sixty years, but the beginning of Safe & Humane initiative in 2012 more acutely focused the foundation’s dedication to Oklahoma animals.

We believe the work in this publication demonstrates an energized movement is underway, but it's important to remember that Safe & Humane is more than a list of data points. Safe & Humane is built on the national and local work and relationships created over the last eight years. While challenges still exist, we hope the work highlighted in the Safe & Humane 2012- 2020 publication will serve as a source momentum for continued progress on behalf of Oklahoma’s animals.
